UNCOOK |
Uncook the Planet Slowly but surely, global warming is cooking the planet. Global warming is caused by greenhouse emissions, including those produced through air travel. Uncook helps individuals offset their air travel greenhouse emissions. Uncook links your air travel greenhouse emissions to effective emission reduction projects administered by the respected Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (GGAS). Uncook purchases and then retires carbon certificates on behalf of our clients. Uncook buys these carbon credits from parties who undertake effective energy efficiency projects that lead to greenhouse emissions reductions. Uncook carbon offsets meet high levels of offset quality. Uncook has developed a simpleand unique verification measure so that you can be assured that emissions reduction you have paid for has actually taken place. Uncook clients have the option to have their carbon offset registered in the Uncook registry. The mechanism by which Uncook links your emissions to greenhouse reductions projects is shown below.
|
Uncook Certificate When you purchase Uncook carbon offset, you will recieve an Uncook certificate similar to the one shown, right emailed to you. You can also choose to purchase a hardcopy of the certificate that will be mailed to you. The certificate details what you have Uncooked. Y ou can specify in the order form at page bottom clearly what you are offsetting - this information will appear on your certificate. If you are offsetting an air flight you might like to include flight details and date. Each certificate holds a unique identification code that allows the owner to verify that their emissions have been offset. To Uncook something, click here. |

Offset Quality Offset quality refers the the quality of the carbon offset product as well as the quality of the carbon offset service provider. Uncook has been designed from the start to offer the public high levels of offset quality. Here's how we do it. |
| Element | Description | How does Uncook measure up | |
| Additionality | Some greenhouse reduction projects happen as a natural course of Business as Usual. Quality offset projects need to be able to demonstrate that the reduction project was going to proceed irrespective of the carbon credits. Additionality is a measure of whether a greenhouse reduction project would have happened without the availability of funding from selling the carbon credits. |
Uncook carbon offsets have high levels of additionality. Our offsets are developed through initiatives where householders are approached by a respected greenhouse reduction firm and energy-hungry incandescent light globes are replaced with energy-efficient CFL lamps. Clearly, had the greenhouse reduction firm had not knocked on the door, the chances are the household would still be using the light globes. |
|
| Administrative Rigour | Administrative rigour describes the quality of the adminstration of the carbon offset scheme both in the calculation of emissions and in the implementation of emissions reduction projects. |
Uncook relies on the rules and regulations of the respected Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme to ensure that greenhouse reductions are properly undertaken. GGAS is the world's longest running mandatory carbon trading scheme in the world and is administered by IPART, the NSW Government Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal. |
|
| Technical Rigour |
Technical rigour describes the quality of the science behind the carbon offset scheme both in the calculation of emissions and in the emissions reduction project. |
Uncook relies on the Australian Greenhouse Office greenhouse coefficients in all our greehouse calculators. The aviation calculators are based on the internationally recognised methodologies. The offset projects themselves have high levels of technical rigour need to meet high levels of technical rigour in order to acheive the GGAS certification. |
|
| Extra Benefits |
Some greenhouse reduction projects really do little more than reduce greenhouse emissions. For example, flaring methane from landfills. Other projects have associated with them a range of other social, environmental and economic benefits. An example of this is a wind farm which assists to create a regional tourism industry or a plantation that has ecological habitat values. |
Extra benefits from projects supported by Uncook reduce the energy bills for householders who accept the free CFL lamps. These lamps make their homes more comfortable by reducing heat load. Furthermore, as part of the initiative, the greenhouse reduction firm provides greenhouse education material to assist the homeowner to make even further energy and greenhouse reductions. Uncook is presently seeking other offset schemes that have a range of other benefits. |
|
| Abatement Period |
The abatement timeframe is the time it takes for an action to realise a greenhouse benefit. This can range from instantaneous (eg through the provision of renewable mains power) to over 100 years (eg through carbon sequestration with trees). The shorter the abatement period the better. |
The projects that Uncook support have an abatement period of about 5 - 7 years. Uncook are currently seeking access to offset provided by renewable energy which will provide instantaneous offset. More soon. |
|
| Project Choice |
There are many ways to reduce greenhouse emissions. These include energy efficiency, capture of landfill methane, destruction of SF6 gas, carbon sequestration through tree planting, use of solar and wind power. Quality offset providers offer a range of options for their clients to support. |
Uncook currently purchases carbon credits from domestic energy efficiency projects. However, we are in the process of acquiring credits from renewable energy projects. While it is understood that carbon credits from tree planting are not high quality, they remain popular with the public. For this reason, Uncook will make available forestry credits soon. |
|
| Greenhouse Education | The carbon offset industry plays a key role in educating the public about greenhouse. Quality offset providers assist the public to learn about greenhouse and encourage solutions to climate change. |
The Uncook website is a source of information about greenhouse and climate change and will continue to be developed: About Greenhouse |
|
| Transparency | Transaparency is a measure of the extent to which the public can determine that the carbon offset provider is actually offsetting their emissions. Most offset providers have almost no transparency and thus the public must be very wary. |
Uncook is proud to have developed a simple method by which clients can verify that their emissions have been offset, by giving them access to the GGAS registry. It is through the GGAS registry that Uncook surrenders carbon credits against our client's greenhouse emissions. This facility is unique in the carbon offset industry. See here for details: Verify |
